CHARLOTTE COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Campbell Maloney, 2 May 1893 ----¤¤¤---- The Charlotte Gazette, issue of May 18, 1893 (copy maintained by Clerk, Charlotte County, VA): Submitted 11-8-98 by James H. Maloney DEATH OF MR. CAMPBELL MALONEY Died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. William Cox, near Red House, May 2nd, 1893, Mr. Campbell Maloney, in the 95th years of his age. He was, I suppose, the oldest man in Charlotte County, being born in 1798 before the death of George Washington. His wife, now 90 years old, survives him. Mr. Maloney was a good man, and highly respected by all who knew him. He made a public profession of religion about forty years ago, and united with the church at White's Chapel, of which he remained a consistent member until his death. His wife was also a member of the same church. The old gentlemen requested that he might be buried at the church of which he had been so long a member, and also that Mr. Fenton G. North should select the spot for his grave, which duty Mr. North kindly and faithfully performed. His burial was attended by a large concourse of people, and the ladies of the neighborhood and supplied a great profusion of flowers, which literally covered his grave. May the good Lord care for his aged and sorrowing partner, who has been his companion for so many years, and who must soon follow the departed husband. They will meet on the other side of the river, where age will be known no more. A Friend. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
