            EDWARD ELAM - Marriage Contract
Charlotte County Deed Book 11, Page 264

Be it known that whereas a marriage is about to be solemnized
between the undersigned parties, namely Edward Elam and Lettuce
Wallace both of the County of Charlotte and State of Virginia Now
it is to be understood that the said Edward Elam being desireous
so to secure to the same Lettuce Wallace for the benefit of such
children as she now hath al such property as she is now possessed
of To wit, a Grey mare, two head of cattle, two feather beds &
furniture and all her household and kitchen furniture, all of
which property the said Edward Elam for himself and all claiming
under him do by these presents covenant and agree that he will
relinquish all claim thereto which in Law is equity and further
that the said Lettuce Wallace shall and may dispose of such
property at any time or in any way either by Gift or otherwise
whensoever she may think proper so to do. And the said Lettuce
Wallace on her part do covenant & agree to ___ quit all claim
either in Law or otherwise issued to any part of the Estate of
the said Edward Elam of all and every description whatever. In
Witness whereof the parties hath hereunto set their hands & seals
on this 25th day of May 1810.

Clements At a Court held for Charlotte County the third day of
September 1810 This marriage contract between Edward Elam &
Lettuce Wallace was proved in Court by the oath of Robert Gayle,
Thomas Chaffin, Jr. and Austin Clements, three of the subscribing
Witnesses, to be the Act and Deed of the said Edward Elam and
Lettuce Wallace and Ordered to be Recorded.
