Meredith Aldrich, M.D., 92, of Charlottesville, Virginia, died Thursday, May 4, 2006. Born July 27, 1913, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late John Elton Alrich and Myra O. Wachtel Reed. His wife, Margaret Kash Alrich, preceded him in death. He graduated in 1934 from Stetson University with a B.S. in Chemistry; 1938 from the University of Virginia School of Medicine; and in 1942, received a M.S. in Pathology from the University of Virginia. He interned at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Richmond, Virginia from 1938 until 1939; did his Residency in Surgery, University of Virginia Medical School, from 1939 until 1943. From 1943 until 1946 he served in the United States Army Medical Corps. From 1947 until his retirement in 1981 he was with the Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, and was appointed as the Claude A. Jessup Professor of Surgery in 1971. He was a past president of Albemarle Medical Society, Virginia Surgical Society, Southern Society of Clinical Surgeons; a former member of the Southern Surgical Association; Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, member of American Surgical, University Surgeons, Virginia Medical Society, AMA and American Board of Surgeons and a member of First Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Virginia. He is survived by his children, Margaret Ann Ayers of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jean-Meredith A. Harrill and her husband, Dr. Charles W. Harrill of Mechanicsville, Virginia; grandchild, Jennifer Meredith A. Jones and her husband, Captain Randall K. Jones; great-grandchildren, Hannah Meredith Jones and Graham Ayers Jones, all of Jacksonville, North Carolina. Burial private services were held at Monticello Memory Gardens.
