Daily Progress, December 11 to December 15, 2008 
Dr. Braxton Ragland Coles, 86, of Chicago, Illinois, departed this life on 
Monday, December 8, 2008, at a hospital in Chicago, Illinois. 



Born December 12, 1922, at Charlottesville, Virginia. 



He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Madeline Coles; eight children, 
Braxton II and his wife, Rene, Kenneth and his wife, Gale, David, Kevin and his 
wife, Sabrina, Steven and his wife, Premi, Patricia and her husband, Richard, 
Geary, and Yolanda and her husband, Kevin; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-
grandchildren, three sisters, Catherine Payne, Pauline Clark and her husband, 
Brewer, Clariece Harris and her husband, James; one brother, Ryland Coles and 
his wife, Julia; a host of nieces, nephews and countless friends.



Preceding him in death were his parents, Hastings and Pauline Coles; six 
brothers, Robert "Pete" Coles, Earl Coles, Hastings Coles II, Kenneth Coles, 
Richard Coles, and Eugene Coles; four sisters, Carrie Pinkney, 
Constance "Shooky" Sims, Laura Fleming and Leola Coles.



A memorial service will be held at Chapman Grove Baptist Church, 2064 Stony 
Point Road, Charlottesville, VA 22911, at 7 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008, 
with interment at Oakwood Cemetery on Saturday, December 20, 2008. 



Arrangements are entrusted to Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
