Chesapeake County, VA - Cedar Memorial Gardens Cemetery Survey completed Saturday February 19, 2005 by John Steffel. Submitted to The USGenWeb Tombstone Transcrition Project by John Steffel Cedar Memorial Gardens Cemetery 2800 block of Cedar Road Chesapeake, VA 23323 36 44.271N 076 20.352W The cemetery is located on the south side of Cedar Rd near the intersection with Shipyard Rd. Just a few blocks from the Deep Creek Canal drawbridge. As of March 2005 Cedar road is being moved and widened. The intersection will be re-aligned. The entrance to the cemetery is bordered by a pair of brick pillars roughly three feet square and seven feet tall but is not identified. The Hugo A Owens Middle School is adjacent to the west and has the address of 2801 Cedar Rd. At the Chesapeake City Records office, in Map Book 61, pages 96, 96A and 96B the cemetery is identified and the original plans are mapped out. In a 1996 City Directory the address given for the Cedar Memorial Gardens was 2801 Cedar Road. The cemetery itself is roughly an oval area of about two acres surrounded by an asphalt driveway. The area has been ’bush hogged’ several times and many of the stones and markers have been damaged and moved. The graves themselves are scattered across the area in a very rough arch pattern. Starting at the eastern edge and working to the west, twenty seven graves were found and identified as follows. Recessed metal plate on granite. ROBERSON, Christine A.
