CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Bellwood Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Bellwood cemetery: 1936 Mar. 17 Research made by Craig Romaine Cemetery Location: 5 miles from Chester, Virginia west of Route #1 Chesterfield County DATE: Approximately 1840 OWNERS: Bellwood family. DESCRIPTION: At the rear of the house now owned by the Bellwood family is a small cemetery in an open meadow. This cemetery is not enclosed, but had been well protected and preserved, although two of the tombstones have fallen. This place is on the Richmond and Petersburg Turnpike, about five miles from the Chester Post Office. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The inscriptions are as follows: Here Rest the remains of Elizabeth wife of Richard Gregory Who departed this life 25, Nov. 1842 Aged 75 years And I heard a voice from Heaven saying unto me write Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them. Sacred to the memory of Richard Gregory who died Dec.r 1844 in the 88th year of his age I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Tim IV 7 My record on high Job XVI 19 Sacred to the memory of George Cox Born 19, March 1796 Died 15 June 1845 And to the memory of Margaret G. Cox Born 3 June 1796 ob. March 1843 Blessed and the dead which die in the Lord Here Rest the remains of Minerva Willson who died Jan’y 24 1841 Aged 19 years I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day Richard T.
