CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Branch Church Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Branch Church Cemetery: 1936 Oct. 30 Research made by Craig Romaine Cemetery Location: 9 miles north of Chesterfield Court House, on Route #37 Chesterfield County DATE: 1834 OWNERS: Branch Church DESCRIPTION: There are many graves and many tombstones in the Branch Church Cemetery. Here for many years persons from nearby farms and homes have been buried. The graves here are shaded by very large oaks which seem to be an integral part of many of the older church cemeteries, while ornamental shrubs are spaced irregularly about many of the plots. Here are tombstones of various sizes, some of which stand only a few inches above the ground, while others range from two to eight feet in height. All of these stones are well preserved and the epitaphs are highly legible. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Lying just a few feet from the old brick church known as Branch’s Church, it is almost within sight of the historic “British Camp”, the headquarters of Cornwallis during the Revolutionary War.
