CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Friend Cemetery ----€€€---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Friend graveyard: 1936 Nov. 4 Research made by Craig Romaine Cemetery Location: 5 miles north of Chester, Virginia, .1 mile north of Coxendale Road. Chesterfield County DATE: 1798. Date of oldest grave marker. OWNERS: Unknown. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is in an isolated section of a large tract of wood. It is inaccessible to automobile traffic except in very favorable weather. It is a place of rustic beauty, protected by four walls of rough stone deftly placed. The walls are about five feet high and two feet thick. The graveyard is located on a knoll, densely shaded. The tombstones stand solid and erect, untouched by high winds and unmolested by careless hands. There are many graves with tombstones from two to six feet in height. One of them is a shaft ten feet high so aged that it was necessary to apply charcoal to the surface to render the inscription thereon legible. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Inscriptions on tombstones: N.
