CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Hilltop Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Hilltop Cemetery: 1936 Apr. 14 Research made by Craig Romaine Cemetery Location: 300 feet north of Route #60, on old Midlothian Turnpike. Chesterfield County DATE: Earliest date mentioned, 1817. OWNERS: Unknown. DESCRIPTION: For lack of a better name and because the place seems void of one, I have designated this cemetery the “Hilltop Cemetery”, which, under the circumstances, is an appropriate one, because it is situated directly on top of a small hill just east of the old Midlothian Turnpike. This cemetery has many tombstones bearing names which apparently have no connection with each other and for this reason it is believed to be a cemetery and not a private graveyard. Here also are large and magnificent trees which perhaps andedate the old graves themselves. A short distance to the east and likewise in the midst of old trees, are massive breastworks which extend from Route #60, deep into the forest. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The inscriptions on the tombstones are given below: In Memory of Ann Farley Who Died Aug. 16th, 1855 Aged 29 years Also her son Benjamin Richard Born Aug. 6th, 1855 Died Aug. 21st, 1855 Then called I upon the name of the Lord, O Lord I beseech thee deliver my Soul.
