CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Moody Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Moody graveyard: 1936 Sept. 24 Research made by Craig Romaine Cemetery Location: 2 miles east of Midlothian, Virginia, on Route #60; 1 mile south of Route #60 on Chesterfield Road, .3 of a mile west of Chesterfield Road. Chesterfield County DATE: 1842 OWNERS: Moody family. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard offers a striking contrast to many of the old family burying grounds which are deteriorating from age and neglect. The Moody graveyard is located about 200 feet to the rear of the old Moody house. It is a small, square plot, approximately twenty by twenty feet, and protected by a solid iron fence. Surrounding the whole, are large cedars, evenly spaced, planted there years ago to add beauty to the quaint little family cemetery. Directly in the center of the Moody graveyard stands a large monument erected in memory of Jameson and Mary Susan Moody, an aunt, Nancy Ann Moody, and listing the names of the children born to the former. This monument consists of a tall granite shaft placed on three layers of marble. The entire height is about fifteen feet. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Within this enclosure are many tombstones, all well preserved, and ranging in size from one to six feet.
