CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Providence Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Providence Cemetery: 1937 Jan. 1 Research made by Craig Romaine Cemetery Location: 5 miles west of Richmond, Virginia, on Route #60; 1 mile south of Route #60 on Route #678 Chesterfield County DATE: 1831 OWNERS: Providence Methodist Episcopal Church DESCRIPTION: Beside the winding country road which has been named for it stands the Providence Methodist Church. It is a tall frame building, snow white, with a high pointed roof. Erected in 1813, it has served the community for many years. The cemetery may also be seen from the road. It lies a short distance to the south of the church and covers a large area. There are many tombstones of various sizes and many graves of members of the old Providence Church. The cemetery is kept in good condition, but unfortunately very few trees have been allowed to stand and it is thus deprived of much of the rustic beauty found in many of the older country cemeteries.
