CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Salem Church Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Salem cemetery: 1936 Sept. 30 Research made by Craig Romaine Cemetery Location: 1 mile from Chesterfield Courthouse, on Centralia Road. Chesterfield County DATE: Earliest date, 1827. OWNERS: Salem Church Congregation. DESCRIPTION: Salem cemetery is typical of many of those found on old church grounds. It is densely shaded by massive oaks, and many of the graves lie deep beneath crisp brown leaves. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This cemetery is situated a short distance east of the old Salem Church which was erected in 1797 and consecrated in 1802 by the Rev. Eleazer Clay. The cemetery itself is not so old as the church. However, the names of some of the county’s oldest families appear on several of the tombstones. The inscriptions are as follows: Wyndham D.
