Archer Deed - May 27, 1820 This indenture made and entered into the twenty seventh day of May one thousand eight hundred and twenty between Field Archer and Martha B. Archer, his wife, of the County of Chesterfield of the one part and Martha Britton of said same county of the second part. Whereas by virtue of a decree of the county court of Chesterfield, pronounced on the 11th day of November 1819 in a suit therein depending in which William Covington and Mary his wife (late Mary F. Archer), Edward B. Archer and Ellenora W. Archer, children of Field Archer by Martha B. Archer his wife were plaintiffs and Field Archer and Martha B. Archer in their proper persons and Robert B. Archer, Archibald B. Archer, Martha B. Archer, Pocahontas B. Archer, Powhatan B. Archer, Lucy Ann Archer (infant), children of the aforesaid Field Archer and Martha B. Archer, his wife, by the said Field Archer, their dear friend and special guardian were defendants. It was decreed and ordered that the commissioners in the said decree named (or any three of them) should take to their assistance the county surveyor and lay off to William Covington and Mary , his wife, to Edward B. Archer and Ellenora W. Archer each one tenth part of the tract of land in which the said Field Archer then resided. And whereas also in obedience to the decree, John W. Gill, Daniel Dyson, and Robert Gill three of the commissioners therein named did on the 27th day of May in the year 1820 assign to the said William Covington and Mary , his wife, to Edward B. Archer and Ellenora W. Archer each one tenth of part of the said tract of land, to wit: To William Covington and Mary, his wife, his lot no. 9 containing fifty seven; to Edward B. Archer lot no. 4 containing fifty four acres and to Ellenora W. Archer lot no. 5 containing sixty five acres as by reference to the report of said commissioners hearing date on the 27th day of May in the year 1820 will more fully appear and whereas also this said Ellenora W. Archer having sold the said lot of land assigned to her as aforesaid to the said Martha Britton for the sum of seven hundred and eighty dollars. Now this indenture witnesseth that the said Field Archer and Martha B. Archer, his wife for and in consideration of the promises aforesaid and for and in consideration of one dollar to them in hand paid by the said Martha Britton at or before the ensealing and delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain, sell, and convey unto the said Martha Britton, her heirs and assigns all the interests, claims, bills or demands which they the said Field Archer and Martha B. Archer, his wife have into the said tract of land assigned to the said Ellenora W. Archer aforesaid situated, lying and being in the County of Chesterfield containing sixty five acres to the same more or less and bounded as follows, to wit: On the east by the Petersburg road which separates it from the land on which Edward H. Boiseau resides, on the south by the center of Thomas Dance=s, on the west by the lands of Harry Britton and on the north by the lands of the said Field Archer, together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any way appertaining. To have and to hold the said tract or lot of land with all the appurtenances thereto belonging, and all and singular other the premises herein before mentioned or intended to be bargained, sold, and conveyed and every part and parcel thereof with every of their rights, members and appurtenances unto the said Martha Britton, her heirs and assigns forever. And the said Field Archer and Martha B., his wife, for themselves and their heirs the said tract of lot of land before mentioned unto the said Martha Britton, her heirs and assigns forever free from the claim or claims of them, the said Field Archer and Martha B., his wife, or either of them their heirs against the claim or claims of all and every person claiming under them shall, will and do warrant and forever defend by these presents.
