HALES William Hales was born July 26, 1928 in Creedmore, North Carolina. [sic*] He was the son of the late Samuel and Ivey Peed Hales. Bill was a graduate of Petersburg High School and the University of Richmond. He received his BD from Union Theological Seminary, and his THM and DMIN from Southeastern Theological Seminary. Clinical Pastoral education was completed at the Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, Va. He served a field of churches between college and seminary, including Central Baptist, Smyrna Baptist, Sharon Baptist and Cut Banks Baptist. His full time pastorates were Hulls Memorial Baptist Church, Pocahontas Basset Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Annandale, Bill was active in Virginia Baptist life, serving on many committees and boards, and was the first moderator of the Fredericksburg Baptist Association. He also served as a trustee of the Religious Herald. After retiring, he served a number of churches as an interim pastor. Bill was currently serving as Interim Pastor of West End Baptist Church in Petersburg, Va. He is survived by his wife, Feigh Hart Hales; a daughter Kathy Hales Thompson and her husband, Rev. Robert E. Thompson, of Ashland; grandchildren, Lance Corporal Matthew B. Thompson, of United States Marine Corps of Hanover, Christopher Y. Thompson of Ashland; brother, Joe C. Hales, Sr. of Colonial Heights; three sisters-in-law, Josephine Hales, Betty King, Norma Harper; a brother-in-law, Carl Hart and wife, Alice; and beloved nieces and nephews.
