p.493 Will of William Elam 7 Nov. 1784 
To son William, land and plantation he lives on in Powhatan Co. 200 acres, and
also 400 acres 
in Prince Edward Co. on Vawns Cr., 3 negroes, my wearing clothes, and money I
lent him 
To son Daniel, 3 negroes and personal & real estate in his possession 
To son Richard, 3 negroes and estate he is possessed with 
To son Barkley, land and plantation I live on, I negro and items 
To grandson Henry Elam, son of James Elam, I feather bed 
To granddaughter Frances Cox, 5 negroes in her father's possession 
To grandson William Elam, son of James Elam, 5 shillings 
To daughter Obedience Farley, 3 negroes and items for life, and then to her
children 
To daughter Elizabeth Cheatham, 3 negroes and items 
To daughter Mary Lockett, I negro and items 
To daughter Dinah Elam, items 
To daughter Nancy Bass, 4 negroes and items 
To daughter Frances Baker, 2 negroes and items 
To granddaughter Patricia Smith, 1 negro and items 
Rest to be divided among my children then living, except my bed and still to
Barkley
