In the name of God amen I James Gates of Chesterfield County being of perfect sence and memory praised be God do make this my last will and Testament in manner and form Following. First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God and my body to the earth therein to be decently intered according to the discretion of my executor as for such goods as God hath endow'd me with I give and bequeath as follows. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my brother William Gates one shilling sterling. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my sister Frances Hatcher one shilling sterling. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my sister Margret Nunnely one shilling sterling to them and their heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Gates to her and her disposeing all the goods that she had in possession when I took her to wife. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my sister Martha Gates one shilling sterling to her and her heirs forever and all the residue and remainder of my estate I give and bequeath to my beloved wife dureing her life and after her decease I do leave it to be possessed by James Gates son of William Gates my brother to him and his heirs forever. My will is that my estate shall not be appraised. I do hereby constitute and appoint Joseph Ashbrook my executor of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made. WITNESS my hand this 16th day of July 1767.
