In the name of God amen I John Howlett of Chesterfield County State of Virginia do make this my last will and testament (hereby revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made) in manner and form following. Having heretofore giving to my two sons Edwin Howlett and James M. Howlett all the Estate I intend to give them I give and bequeath to the heirs of the said Edwin Howlett five dollars and to the said James M. Howlett five dollars. I give and bequeath specially to my son Thomas Howlett the tract of land lying on James River known as the old hail(?) place and supposed to contain two hundred and sixty two acres more or less likewise the following slaves to wit Audra(?) Fredrick ____ Rebecca Wilson George Peter Sarah Abbey Margaret Billy Bob Eliza and Dick and the future increase of the females two choice mules a horse and waggon one ox cart and yoke oxen two choice milch cows two beds bed steads and furniture my farming implements and kitchen furniture. I give and bequeath specially to John E. Howlett son of F.E. Howlett Jainey and Hannibald. After the payment of my just debts it is my will and desire that the balance of my estate both real and personal not herein before mentioned shall be equally divided among my Grandchildren William T. Howlett Susan A. Howlett Edwin J. Howlett Sarah A. Hatcher and John E. Hatcher and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Thomas Howlett and my friend Anderson Edwards and Benjamin Hatcher Executors of this my last Will and Testament and it is my will and desire that the Court shall not require any security of my Executors aforesaid and that no appraisment shall be made of my estate. Martin In Chesterfield County Court August the 11th 1851. The last will and testament of John Howlett deceased was produced in court and proved by the oaths of Benjamin Hatcher and Anderson Edward subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded. On the motion of Thomas Howlett Benjamin Hatcher and Anderson Edward Executors in said will named who entered into bond without security (none being required) conditioned as the law directs and took the oath required by law certificate is granted them for obtaining probat of said will in due form.
