ROBERTSON Will CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA Last Will and Testament of William Robertson dt'd. 4 April 1758 Will Book # 1, page 275 In the name of God, Amen, I , William Robertson of the parish of Dale in the County of Chesterfield being in perfect memory thanks be to God for the same do make and ordain this my last will in the form and manner following. ITEM. I give my soul into the hands of the Almighty God that gave it to me and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner at the directions of my Executors and __Illegible__ what worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me, I give in form and manner following. ITEM. I leave to my loving wife Frances Robertson all of my estate real and personal during her life and widowhood. After the death or marriage of my wife Frances I give and leave as follows. ITEM. I give to my son James Robertson of the plantation wherein I now live beginning on the Ashan Swamp so up Hatcher branch to the dividing line between me and __?___. Also one negro named Tom, my great Bible and ___?___ ___?___, my desk and oval table to him and his heirs forever and no more of my estate. ITEM. I give to my son William Robertson the plantation whereon he now lives and all the land thats on the East side of Hatchers branch. Also two negros named Punch and Cate, also I give to him my son William my great chest ___?___ and my oval table to him and his heirs forever. Also my plantation at Winterpock Creek to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give to my grandson John Robertson, the son of William Robertson, my plantation at Saponey and four hundred acres joining the ___?___ plantation and two cows and calves, also a good feather bed to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give to my daughter Margaret Rudd one negro boy named York to her and her heirs forever. ITEM. I give to my daughter Frances Braugh one negro named Abraham to her and to her heirs forever, also one of my best horses I five to my said daughter Frances and her heirs forever. ITEM. I give to my grandaughter Isabell Robertson one negro girl named Lucy and her increase to her heirs forever but my will and desire is that if my said grandaughter should die without lawful issue if her body the said negro girl and her increase to be equally divided between ny children. ITEM. I give to my daughter Mary Owen one negro named Bess, one brass kettle also one good iron pot to her and her heirs forever. ITEM. I give to my son-in-law Claiborne one negro girl named __?___ to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give all remainder of my estate not before herein divided to be equally divided between my five children hereafter named, William, Margaret, Frances, Isabell and Mary. I constitute and appoint my wife Frances & my son William my whole & sole executors of this my last will and Testament revoking all and every other will heretofore made by me and ordain this my last will and Testament. My will and desire is that my estate not be appraised & in witness whereof I have hereunto set my name and seal this fourth day of April, 1757. I, William Robertson of Chesterfield County and Dale Parish being in perfect sense and memory thanks be given unto God, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form as followeth, viz, I recommend my soul into the arms of almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my executor hereafter mentioned and my estate which pleased God to bless me with as with in this manner, viz.. ITEM. I desire that my land may be equally divided between my two sons, William Robertson and Bridgewater Robertson and to their heirs forever. I lend unto my son William my colt until my son Bridgewater comes of age and then to be returned to him. ITEM. I give unto my daughter Elisabeth Clyborne one shilling, sterling. I give likewise to my daughter Martha Blanchet one shilling, sterling. I give unto my daughter Triss Robertson my spinning wheel and cards. I give unto Thomas Marcom my white mare and all the remainder of my estate to be sold and the money to be kept by my brother George Robertson until my son Bridgewater Robertson comes of age and then do give it to him. I leave my brother George Robertson and my son William Robertson my sole executors of this my last will and Testament, In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand seal this 15th day of June one thousand seven hundred and sixty four. I, John Robertson of the County of Chesterfield being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. Imprimus, I give and bequest unto my son John Robertson five shillings to be paid him by my executors hereafter mentioned. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son Francis Robertson the land I hold in this tract whereon I now live, beginning where the line crosses John Norris's spring branch then down that branch with the meanders to the river containing by estimation seven hundred acres to him the said Francis Robertson and to his heirs forever and the remainder or overplus of this tract of land to be sold provided my debts cannot be discharged without and if my debts can be discharged without such sale than give and bequest unto my daughter Martha Robertson the said remainder or overplus of this said tract of land during her natural life and after her decease then to my son Francis Robertson to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son William Robertson and to his heir forever six hundred acres of land being the upper end of my tract of land in the County of Amelia, five hundred and ninety nine acres of which being in a separate patent. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son George Robertson and to his heirs forever six hundred acres of land in the County of Amelia aforesaid adjoining four hundred acres I hold on the mouth of Flatt Creek (on which John Bullington formerly lived thereon). My will and desire is that if the remaining four hundred acres could be laid off so as to be no prejudice to my son George Robertson's tract of land my will and desire is that it may be laid off at the mouth of Flatt Creek, the said four hundred acres of land to be laid off in two lotts two hundred in each lott to the best advantage one lot of which four hundred acres I give and bequeath to my grandson John Robertson, son of John and the other lott of two hundred acres I lend unto my daughter Mary Walker during her natural life and after her decease I give and bequeath unto my grandson John Walker the other said lott of two hundred acres of land provided and upon condition if my said grandson John Robertson, John Walker or their father's should by any ways or means attempt to convey by lease, rent, or deed of sale a property in the said land and promises that then or upon immediate notice thereof it is my will and desire that my executors in behalf of my son William and George Robertson take possession of the same to be equally divided between their heirs and assigns forever. ITEM. I give unto my daughter Mary Walker a negro boy named Glouster, a negro wench named Sarah and her child and increases to her own proper use as she may direct during her natural life and after her decease to my grandson John Walker the said negros with their increases to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give and beqqueath unto my son William Robertson three negros named __illegible_, a boy named Frank and a girl named Margaret and her increase to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son William Robertson three negros, young Abram, Duncan, and Sarah and her increase to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Robertson five negros, Miles, young Sam, Daniel, Grace and Nanny and their increase to her and her heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Francis Robertson five negros, Jack, Ned, old Sam, old Abram and Betty with her increases to her and her heirs forever. ITEM. I gve and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Robertson five negros, Cesar, Ralph, Jenny, Clitty and young Hannah and their increases to her and her heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Martha Robertson five negros, Jimmy, Harry, Lucy, Fanny, and Sue and their increase to her and her heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah Robertson if it be her choice in lieu of her dower six negros to her and her heirs forever and to be her choice out of nine names, Aggy, Rachel, Latt, Doll, Hannah, daughter of Latt, Amey, Phill, young Will and great Will. The other three I lend unto my beloved wife Sarah during her natural life or widowhood and after her death or marriage to be eqyally divided between my three sons, Francis, William and George Robertson. ITEM. My will and desire is that all of my household furniture should be kept together until my son Francis Robertson shall come to the age of twenty one and then to be equally divided by my executors between mt wife Sarah Robertson and my children Francis, William, George, Elizabeth, Frances, Ann, and Martha Robertson. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my three sons all of my stock of cattle, horses, four blooded horses, one for each of my daughters. ITEM. It is my will and desire that my old nefro wench Grace should continue in the family as a cook and I do nominate and appouint my friend John Botte, John Hardin and my son Francis Robertson, when he shall come to the age f twenty one, my executors of this my last will and Testament. ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son William Robertson to him and his heirs forever my two lotts of land in the town of Pocahontas in the County of Chesterfield, In Witness I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this nineteenth dau of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty five. I, Francis Robertson of Chesterfield County being in perfect health and memory thanks be given to God for the same; and calling to mind my mortality and that it is appointed once for all men to die so I make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say, principally and first of all, I give my soul to God that gave it, and my body I commit to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executor never doubting but I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as to my worldly estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give and bequest and dispose of in the following manner & form. IMPRIMUS, I give and bequeath to my son William Robertson all the money that is due to me and is in the hands of my son James Robertson, John Baugh, Thomas Rudd, Jonas Cliborn and David Owen, to him the said William Robertson and to his heirs & assigns forever after my decease, and likewise constitute and appoint my son William to be whole & sole executor of this my last Will and Testament disannulling & revoking all other Wills heretofore by me made, acknowledging this & and not other to be my last Will and Testament. Signed & Acknowledge in presence of us his David Gooding Francis X Roberson Collins Gooding # 8 Last Will and Testament of JOHN ROBERTSON Chesterfield Co., VA dtd. 14 May 1768 Will Book # 2, p. 170 In the name of God, Amen, this 14th day of May, Anno Dom, 1768, I, John Robertson being sick in body but good & perfect memory thanks be to almighty God & calling to remembrance the uncertain estate of this transitory and that all flesh must yield unto death when it shall please God to call do make & declare this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following, first being penitent & sorry for all my sins most humbly desiring forgiveness for the same I commend my soul to almight God, my saviour and redemer in whom & by whose merits I trust & believe assuredly to be saved & to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors thereafter named and for the settling of my temporal estate & and such good chattles & debts as it hath pleased God to bestow on me, I do order & give & dispose the same in manner & form following, that is to say, IMPRIMUS, I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth the grey horse usually roade & side saddle, one feather bed & furniture that she is now possest with & also all of her mother's clothes. ITEM. It is my desire that all my land in Mechlingburg be equally divided among my sons, Isaac & John, to them and their heirs forever, and it is my desire that all my lands in Chesterfield be set up to the highest bidder and sold and the money equally divided amoungest my three children and all my other goods and chattles sold & the money equally divided amongest them all and I hereby make and appoint my loving friend Edward Briers & my son Isaac full sole executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking, disannulling & making void all other Wills and bequests by me made & declaring this only to be my last Will & Testament. I desire that all my just debts be paid by my executors hereafter named. IMPRIMUS, I lend unto my loving wife Sarah Robertson during her widowhood four negros, Punch, Cate, Agnes, and James and all my personal estate. ITEM. I give to my son-in-law William Beasley one shilling sterling. ITEM. I give to my son John Robertson my case and bottles and one pot. ITEM. I give to my son William Robertson one brass kettle. ITEM. I give to my son-in-law Matthew Robertson one shilling sterling. ITEM. I give to my son-in-law Miles Robertson one shilling sterling. ITEM. I give to my son James Robertson one negro called Lesar. ITEM. I give to my son Archerbald Robertson one negro called Punch and all my stock and household furniture after my wifes decease but my will and desire is if he dies without lawful issue they shall return to my two sons John and William and their heiras forever. ITEM. I give to my two daughters Martha and Ann Robertson two negros called Agness and James after my wifes decease to be equally divided when my youngest daughter somes of age or married but my will and desire is that if either die without lawful issue that my sons John and William Robertson shall possess the whole, they and their heirs forever. My will and desire is that my estate be not appraised. I also make, appoint and ordain my two sons John and William Robertson and Mathew Robertson my executors of this my last Will and Testament.
