Chesterfield Co., VA Will JAMES ROBERTSON, 1757 Will Book #1, p. 272. In the name of God, amen, I, James Robertson of the County of Chesterfield and Dale Parish being sick in body but perfect in mind and judgement thanks be given to God do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, Imprimis. First, after my just debts are paid I give and bequeath unto my loving wife, Mary Robertson, the following slaves, viz, Ben, Mark, Billie, Sal, ?? (name illegible), and Sukey, the last three being children of Philio, to be hers and her heirs forever. ITEM. I also give my beloved wife the use of the plantation I now live on during her natural life. The land allotted for the said plantation is all I have below a straight line I desire may be made from McWilliam Prides' old mill on swift creek to a corner on Francis Parkinson at the upper end of his old field and at her death I give and bequeath the said land and plantation to my son George and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my son James all that parcel of land I purchased of John Howlett joining the above mentioned to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my son John all the remaining part of the tract of land I now live on to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my son George a tract of land I have on Winterpock Creek in this County to him and his heirs forever. ITEM. If the child my wife now goes with should be a son I give and bequeath to that and my other three sons, George, James, and John all my land in Amelia County to them and their heirs forever. I desire it may be equally divided and the children to use lotts for choice. Hut if the child my wife goes with should be a daughter or any of the sons should die before the age of majority then I desire my surviving sons divide my Amelia land equally. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my daughter Martha a negro woman called Lucy and three hundred pounds current money to be given out of my estate to her and her heirs forever. ITEM. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary a negro girl called Betty & three hundred pounds current money to be paid as above to her and to her heirs forever. ITEM. If the child my wife now goes with should be a daughter my will is it have a negro girl called Mar and three hundred pounds current money as my other daughters to her and to her heirs forever plus if either of the daughters die before married or their age of twenty one the surviving daughter to divide the estate equally. ITEM. My will is that all the remaining part of my negros be equally divided between my sons as well as that my wife now goes with, if a son, as George, James, and John and I desire the division not to be made while the first of my sons comes of age to enjoy his part and then the negros to be divided in as many parts as I've sons then alive and the oldest son which is to take his part to draw a lott & take ye part that he draws of the other negros to be kept undivided while another of my sons come of the age of twenty one at which time I desire the same method to be used for him to get his part and continue so doing while all get their parts to them and their heirs forever. ITEM. I desire my wife & children be maintained out of my whole estate while the children come of age to receive their respective parts. ITEM. I give and bequeath all the rest of my estate to be equally divided between all my sons, as well born as unborn, to be equally divided each to have their part as they come of age only fifty pounds current money. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife more than before mentioned. ITEM. I appoint my loving wife executrix and my son, John Robertson, executor of this my last will and testament & I desire there be no appraisement.
