Exley, Alexandria, Va., from James Gillespie, October 9, 1802 Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Debra Miller This collection of letters, bills etc. were sent to James Patton, Esq., Merchant in the old seaport of Alexandria, Va. The letters will encompass the latter 1700s - early 1800s. James Patton was b. ca. 1755 in Newton, Lima-Verry, County Derry, Ireland and he died in Alexandria, Va, date unknown at this time. He married Mollie Kincaid, place and date unknown. His parents were James Patton, Sr. (b. ca. 1734, Ireland, d. Jan. 16, 1821, Pennsylvania) and Mary Newell (b. ca. 1736 Ireland, d. June 7, 1806, Alexandria, Va.). ------------------------------------------------------------------ Addressed to Wm. Exley, Alexandria, Virginia Philadelphia, 9th October 1802 Dear Sir, I herewith enclose your Invoice and Billof Loading of One Case containing 186 large and 81 small Baskets Segars, which you will please to dispose of to the best advantage and remit in the Nett Proceeds. I shall be glad to receive from time to time an account of the State of your Market when a profitable Adventure is to be made, either by Importing from or Shipping to your Place, I will embrace the occasion in Anticipation of mutual advantage, either on our Joint, or my particular Concern.
