Letter to James Patton, Esq., Alexandria, Va., Jordaine and Shaw, July 2, 1803 Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Debra Miller This collection of letters, bills etc. were sent to James Patton, Esq., Merchant in the old seaport of Alexandria, Va. The letters will encompass the latter 1700s - early 1800s. James Patton was b. ca. 1755 in Newton, Lima-Verry, County Derry, Ireland and he died in Alexandria, Va, date unknown at this time. He married Mollie Kincaid, place and date unknown. His parents were James Patton, Sr. (b. ca. 1734, Ireland, d. Jan. 16, 1821, Pennsylvania) and Mary Newell (b. ca. 1736 Ireland, d. June 7, 1806, Alexandria, Va.). London 2d July 1803 James Patton Esqr. Sir, The accompanying Letter from our mutual good Friends Messrs. Donaldson & Glenny will sufficiently explain the occasion of our having to address You, and for your perfect Satisfaction in respect to our Solidity & Respectability we refer you to the Letter which also accompanies this from William Wallace Esq. a Partner in the house of Messrs. Low & Wallace of New York where he is on the point of returning & with whom you can correspond should you wish further Information. We have now to desire you will continue on our account such monthly Shipments of Bread & Flour to Jamaica as you have been in the habit of making for Messrs. Donaldson & Glenny following strictly the Instructions you have already received from said Gentlemen in respect to Quality & Quantity but consigning the same for our Account to Alexander Grant Esq. or John Meek Esq. both or either at the Victualling Stores Port Royal, forwarding to us the Invoice & drawing on us for the amounts you have been used to do on said Gentlemen until you may be differently advised.
