The letters will encompass the latter 1700s - early 1800s. James Patton was b. ca. 1755 in Newton, Lima-Verry, County Derry, Ireland and he died in Alexandria, Va, date unknown at this time. He married Mollie Kincaid, place and date unknown. His parents were James Patton, Sr. (b. ca. 1734, Ireland, d. Jan. 16, 1821, Pennsylvania) and Mary Newell (b. ca. 1736 Ireland, d. Gentlemen, We wrote you a few posts ago that we wished to close all our accounts in the commission way previous to our P. Hail (or Harl) leaving this country and that we would send our Mr. Long to receive the ballance of goods shipt last Summer by our Miller Hail & Co. in case you had not in this made the remittance to M. H & Co. We have had nothing in answer and therefore expect you will be prepared to make said payment to the bearer of this, Mr. Long, who has the amount of your debt and will grant you the necessary discharge and are your obt........
