Letter to James Patton, Esq., Alexandria, Va., Nathaniel Burwell, Dec. 2, 1791 Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Debra Miller This collection of letters, bills etc. were sent to James Patton, Esq., Merchant in the old seaport of Alexandria, Va. The letters will encompass the latter 1700s - early 1800s. James Patton was b. ca. 1755 in Newton, Lima-Verry, County Derry, Ireland and he died in Alexandria, Va, date unknown at this time. He married Mollie Kincaid, place and date unknown. His parents were James Patton, Sr. (b. ca. 1734, Ireland, d. Jan. 16, 1821, Pennsylvania) and Mary Newell (b. ca. 1736 Ireland, d. June 7, 1806, Alexandria, Va.). ---------------------------------------------------------------- Gentlemen, Fredericksburg, 2nd Decr 1791 I returned from Millwood last evening & have left in the hands of Mr. Nelson the order on Mr. North of George Town for two hundred pounds which will be (letter torn here) to ______in a few days. I have (letter torn, may be "put into Mr.") Nelson's hands my whole crop of wheat, which will be about seven hundred barrels of flour & of the greater part of the wheat is ahead to get out & the Miller informas me that he can make thirty barrels of flour every twenty four hours, I flatter myself that the above quantity of flour will (oversea both to my directions) be forwarded to your address in the course of a few weeks & I make no doubt, but that you will use your greatest exertions for my advantage in the sale of it; you will be pleased to let me hear from you from time to time till the fifteen hundred pounds be fully paid off, which I flatter myself will be soon brought about from the very large proportion of it that I have left in the hands of Mr. Nelson; as I shall set off in a few days for Carter's Grove (letter missing) or usual address to me at that place. Be pleased to forward the enclosed letters by the first opportunity. I am Gentlemen Your Humble Servant Nath'l Burwell Mrss Burchannan, Patton & Co. Merchants Alexandria PS about one half of the 700 barrels Flour will be superfine, therefore, with your sertion, I hope & flatter myself that it will average a Guinea per barrel round for the 700 barrels.
