Will of Thomas Eakin, 1799 In the name of God. Amen, I, Thomas Eakin of the County of Botetourt and state of Virginia, farmer, being weak in body and of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to God; calling unto mind the mortality of the body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men onece to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament; that is to say principally and first of all I give and renounce my soul into the hand of almighty God; who gave it and my body, I commend to the Earth, to be buried in decent Christian burial at the direction of my Executor; nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and on touching such worldly estate where with it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give _________ and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: first, I give and bequeath to Agnes, my dearly beloved wife a good and decent support or living upon the tract of land which is now in my own prosession and on which I now live, together with all my household goods, debt and one half of all my moveable effects. Also I give my well beloved son, Joseph Eakin the Tract of land he now has in his prosession together with all goods and chattles which I have before given him. Also I give to my well beloved son, William Eakin, whom I likewise institute(?), make and ordain (together with either of his Brothers he chooseth) the Executor of this my last Will and Testament, two tracts of land which he hath heretofore claimed, one being _laying on the waters of Sinking Creek, the other being on the Norwest fork of John’s Creek together with all goods and chattle which I have heretofore given him. Also, I give to my well beloved son,Thomas Eakin, the Tract of land which is now in my own posession together with all my farming and carpenter tools, all my Books, and half of all my moveable affects excepting household goods as above written. N.13.(?) If either of my three sons above mentioned doth decease without descendants then the land I hereby give shall be given and divided to his brothers or their heirs. And I do hereby utterly _________, revoke and disannul (?) all and every other former Testaments, Wills, Legacies, Bequeaths and Executions, by me in any way before named. Willing(?) and bequeathing, satisfying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In writing where of, I have here unto set my hand and seal this thirtieth day of March, In the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine.
