Thompson Cemetery Location: 2.2 miles northeast of Winston, Virginia on Route #615; thence east .5 mile on Route #655; thence east .8 mile on Route #656; thence south 1.6 mile on Route #658; thence north on private road .6 mile to house; thence north 500 yards to graveyard. Culpeper County The graveyard is enclosed by a wire fence. There are more then a dozen trees in the yard and the ground is covered with vines. In the center of the yard is a brick enclosure 45 feet long by 20 feet wide and 4 feet high, 18 inches thick with a cement cover over the wall. There are twenty graves inside of this yard, and all except four have perfect tombstones. One has a granite slab over a brick and cement base. One has a small monument and four have marble markers from 3 to 4 feet high. Four graves only have field stones as markers. The wall has no gate and all the space within the enclosure has been claimed by the twenty graves. Few graveyards have had the attention given to this lot. The good die young, In memory of Sarah A.C. Norris wife of Thomas Murphy and Grand daughter of the late Jeremiah Hall who died on the 24th of June 1855 age 29 Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God In memory of Thomas Murphy who departed this life 12th of January 1858 Aged 31 years He believed in the fear of God, and died in the faith of our Lord and Saviour In memory of Thomas Hall, Sr. who departed this life July 26, 1804 In his 58th year In memory of Elizabeth Hall wife of Thomas Hall, Sr. who departed this life 2nd of Feby. 1817 in her 70th year Sacred to the memory of Jeremiah Hall Who departed this life at Culpeper Courthouse on the 24th, day of Sept. 1840. aged 72 He was an affectionate husband Kind father and sincere friend who passed through a long life without leaving an enemy In memory of Our Mother Judy Hall who died March 14, 1849 in the 84th year of her age In her last moments she gladly committed her spirit to the hands of her Redeemer “Who had done all things well for her” and entered as we believe into that rest which remaineth for the people of God The sorrowing children of Jeremiah Hall have erected this monument to the memory of their Uncle Thomas Hall who departed this life at Oakland, Culpeper County, Virginia on the 7th day of May 1840 Aged 69 years Fear not them which kill the body but not the soul, rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell In memory of Burgess Dayton Hall only son of Thomas & Eliz. Hall of Culpeper County, Va. who departed this life Oct. 11, 1833 Aged 34 years and 19 days Here lies all that is earthly of Fench Hall who departed this life July 14th, 1817 in the 14th year of his age He was the son of Jeremiah & Judy Hall who have erected this monument to his memory Sacred to the memory of Mary G. Tongue who departed this life February 15, 1833 in the 36th year of her age She was the daughter of Jeremiah & Judy Hall who have erected this monument Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth C. Norris who departed this life May 7th, 1825 in the 26th year of her age Sacred to the memory of Maria Amelia daughter of Carter A. & Anna M. Hall of Baltimore Who departed this life at Culpeper C.H. Va. at the residence of her uncle J. Hall on Saturday the 17th of March 1827. Aged 5 years & 10 months Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of heaven In memory of Jane Russell who died on the 20th day of June 1828 Aged 90 years Many were the days of her pilgrimage and full of sorrow, but they that sow in tears, shall reap in joy In memory of Rachel Maria Hall daughter of the late Jeremiah Hall Died at Culpeper C.H. March 21st, 1861 in the 52nd year of her age Here lies all that is mortal of July Amelia Daughter of Jeremiah and Judy Hall who departed this life at Culpeper C.H.
