Culpeper County This plot of ground has been owned by the Rixeys since 1821. This is a well kept plot with tombstone of perfect uniformity in a straight line through the center. The stones were put there within the past twenty-five years. The following inscriptions were taken from these stones. The stone erected to Martha Rixey is of historical interest. She was a noted southern spy during the War Between the States. It is said that she baked pies and cakes and took them into the northern camps to sell. While there she would collect bits of information and slip them to the Confederates.
