The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net ******************************************************************************** Will: Roger Abbott, St.Mark Parish, Culpeper Co, VA (1762) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Roger Abbott of Saint Marks Parish in the County of Culpeper in the Colony of Virginia, planter, being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind & memory, praise be God for the same, and therefore, calling to mind the mortallity of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say: First and principally I give & recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be burried in a christian decent burial at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter mentioned, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give, demise & dispose of the same in the manner & form following: Imprimis: I leave and bequeath unto my dear & loving wife Ann Abbott during her widowhood, the labour, benefit and profit of eight negroes (namely) Sam, Moll, Sencery, Jeffery, Winnay, boy called Adam, girl Grace, boy Harry, together with my plantation and all my personal estate of what kind soever except six head of young cattle which I give immediately after my decease to my son in law Jerome Rossen? & his heirs forever and also three cows & calves which are at my quarter.I give to my daughter Luecey Triplet and her heirs forever immediately after my decease and after the widowhood or decease of my loving wife Ann. I give and bequeath all my estate real and personal in the following manner (except four negroes to my daughter Luecey Triplet (namely, Will, Phillis, Hannah and Little Frank) which four negroes I give and bequeath my daughter Luecey Triplett during her natural life and immediately after my decease, and after the decease of my daughter Luecey of __d.  I give these four negroes with all their future increase to be equally divided between my daugher Luecey Triplet & her children (namely) Roger Triplett and his sister Elizabeth Triplett, to them and their heirs of their body lawfully begotten forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Paddington Abbott and heirs forever three negroes (namely) Frank, Sarah & Hannah, them & their increase to him and his heirs forever, which negroes are already in his possession & he to have no more of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son in law James White two negroes (namely) Dinah and Rose, them and their increase to him and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, also after the widowhood of my wife Ann I give to the said James White aforesaid a fourth part of all my personal estate of what kind soever my negroes on Hill only exempted, and he to have no more of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Cummins, & after the widowhood of my wife Ann, all my right & title of that lott of land I hold of the estate of Robert Bishop? Esq., also a fourth part of all my personal estate of what kind soever, except as before excepted, to her and her heirs forever and she to have no more of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son in law Jerome Rossin two negroes (namely) Bally and Jethro, them and their increase to him & the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, which negroes are already in his possession, also after the widowhood of my loving wife Ann, I give to the said Jerome and a fourth part of all my personal estate of what land and (except as before excepted) and as he to have no more of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy Triplett and after my wife Ann's widowhood with part of all my personal estate of what kind soever (except before exempted) to her and here heirs forever, also it is my wish and desire that at the delivery of the above four negroes immediately after my decease to my daughter Lucy aforesaid shall be delivered to and I do hereby give and order? to begin? to her with the said negroes twelve barrels of my indian corn any thing construed as above and herein to the contrary not withstanding and she to have no more of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath unto my grandson William Abbott, son of my son Edward Abbott, dec'd, during his natural life, all that part of my land whereon I now live lying on the south side of the Mountain Run and bounded by Chicken Branch together with five negroes after the widowhood of my loving wife Ann (namely) Moll, Jeffery, Winny, Adam & Grace and after my grandson William Abbott's decease as aforesaid I give and bequeath all that part of the land together with the said five negroes and their future increase to Edward Abbott, son of my grandson _____ as foresaid to him & the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, also my desire is that any still be and remain on my plantation for the whole and sole use benefit & profit of my two grandchildren to when I have divided all my land and those heirs as aforesaid forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto Roger Abbott, son of my son William Abbott, deceased, all the remainder part of my land lying on the south side of the Mountain Run & the down? side of the Chicken Branch together with five negroes after the widowhood of my wife Ann (namely Sam, Saucey and her son Harry, also the other two? negro children which I formerly lent to my son William Abbott, dec'd, father to the said Roger aforesaid during his natural life named Tom and Dolly, all which said land and five negroes aforesaid and all their future increase and after my loving wife Ann's widowhood I give and bequeath unto my said grandson Roger Abbott, son of my son of my son (repeated) William, dec'd, aforesaid to him and his heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever. Also my will and desire is, and after the widowhood of my loving wife Ann that he may has can equal benefit and use of my still, but neither of my grandsons aforesaid to move it off the Manuel Plantation. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son James Abbott two negro men named Ned and Sammy, to him and his heirs forever which two negroes are already in his possession and he to have no more of my estate. And furthermore it is my will and desire and I do hereby constitute, appoint and ordain my dear and loving wife Ann and my son in law Jerome Rossin & my grandson William Abbott, a son of my son Edward Abbott, deceased, to be my whole and sole Executrix & Executors of this my last my last (repeated) will will (repeated) and testament and do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former Testament, Wills, Legacies and Bequeaths and Executors by me in any way before named, willed and certify? at? had? ratifying and confirming this and this only to be my Last Will and Testament in manner & form aforesaid. Furtermore my desire is that my wife Ann have the whole and sole command of this my estate during the limitted time aforesaid without any molestation hindrance, interruption of any of her children or any other person whatsoever, and at the expiration of my wifes widowhood, as above mentioned, my desire is my children shall be content to divide the personal estate as above with what they find she has remaining.
