The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net ******************************************************************************** Will: John Butler, Culpeper Co, VA (1756) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I John Butler Sr of Culpepper County being very sick but of sound and perfect mind & memory, thanks be to God, do hereby make my last will & testament, that is to say: Chiefly and principally, I recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God and my body the earth to be buried in a christian like decent manner at the discretion of my Executors and as touching such worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give, desire & dispose of in the following manner. Imprimis: I give to my loving wife all that I have in this world during her life or as long as she shall continue a widow and then to be equally distributed among my own children, namely: John, James, Thomas, Anne, Sarah, Susanna & Elizabeth, and I appoint my son John and Mr. James Strother Jr of the two seniors Executors of this my last will & testament revoking all other Will or Wills by me heretofore made and do declare this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. IN WITNBESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this second day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & fifty six.                                                     John Butler Signed, sealed, published and pronounced by the said John Butler to be his Last Will & Testament in presence of us: William Collins John Reynolds John Procter                         At a Court held for the County of Culpeper                            Thursday, the 21st day of April 1757 This Last Will and Testament of John Butler, dec'd, was proved by the oaths of William Collins, John Reynolds & John Procter, witneses thereto and ordered to be recorded, being sworn to by John Butler, one of the Executors therein named, and on his motion, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form.  Liberty being reserved to James Strother Jr, the other Executor within named, to join in the Probat when he shall think fit.                                                        Teste:                                                        Roger Dixon, Cl.Cur.
