In the Name of God amen.  I William Crosthwait of Bromfield Parish in ye county of Culpeper being well in 
health and of Perfect mind & memory but knowing the certainty of death and uncertainty of the Hour and 
Time, do therefore make this my last will and Testament, and after recommending my Body to ye Earth to 
be Buried at ye Discretion of my Executors here after nam'd & my soul to God who gave it me with all 
worldly Estate it hath Pleas'd him to endow me with I dispose of it in mannor and form following Viz

First and Principally, I desire that all my just Debts may be punctually paid

Secondly, I lend to my loving wife the use of all my Personal Estate during her Widowhood (Except a Slave a 
Piece to be lent to each of Children as they come of age.

Thirdly, It is my desire that as soon as my youngest son or daughter living that come of age, that all my 
Personal Estate be Equally Divided amongst what Children I have then living (Except my wife's dower 
which is likewise to be Equally Divided between them at her death.

Also, It is my Desire that when my youngest son or daughter comes of age that ye Land whereon I now live 
may be sold and the money Equally divided Between my two sons Jacob and William Crosthwait.

And Lastly I nominate and appoint Mr. Joseph Early, Majr. James Barber (?), Mr. John Terril Executors 
and my wife Milley Executrix of this my last will and Testament, and I do hereby utterly revoke, disannul 
all former Bequests, wills and Legacies by me heretofore in any wise left or made, declaring, ratifying and 
Confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my 
hand and Seal this Tenth day of July one Thousand seven Hundred and Seventy

At a Court held for the County of Culpeper on Monday the 15th of April 1771 This last Will and 
Testament of William Crosthwait decd was this day Exhibited to the court by Milly Crosthwait widow and 
Relect of the said decedient and one of the Excors herein named and was Proved by the oath of Jonathan 
Cowherd and William Bates Witnesses thereto and to be recorded and on his motion Certificate is Granted 
her for  obtaining a probat whereof in due form she having Sworn is the same and given Bond and Security 
according to Law Liberty being Reserved for the other Exor's to join in this Probat when they shall think fit.
