The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net ******************************************************************************** Will: George Doggett, St.Mark Parish, Culpeper Co, VA (1758) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I George Doggett of the Parish of St.Mark in the County of Culpeper, being indisposed in body but, thanks to God, of as sound mind & memory as usual, and knowing the uncertainty of this life, do make & ordain my last will & testament in manner & form following (to wit): Principally & first, I recommend my soul to almighty God, humbly hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ to obtain pardon & remission of all my sins & enjoy everlasting felicity; and my body I commend unto the earth (from whence it came) therein to be decently interred in a christian like manner and as for worldly estate with which it hath pleased God to bless me I dispose of as follows (viz): I give and bequeath to my son Chatwin Doggett & heirs and assigns forever one tract of land containing one hundred & sixty four acres lying in Lancaster County? as also one negro boy named Daniel, but it is my will that in case my said son Chatwin should die before he arrives at lawfull age & without issue of his body, then the said land shall go to my son Thomas Doggett and his heirs and assigns forever. I give to my son Thomas Doggett one negro boy named Harry. I give to my daughter Sarah Ann Rynnolds and Margaret Scroggin each the sum of ten shillings.  All the remainder of my estate after my funeral charges & just debts are paid, I lend to my beloved wife Ann Doggett during her natural life and after her decease to be equally divided between all my children, except Sarah Ann Rynolds & Margaret Scroggin aforesaid who I do not intend shall have any more of my estate than what they have already received & the ten shillings each above mentioned. It is my will and desire that my estate shall not be appraised. Lastly, I do hereby nominate, constitute & appoint my beloved wife Ann Doggett Executrix & my son Thomas Doggett Executor of this my Last Will & Testament & do hereby revoke all former Wills by me made & do declare this only to be my Last Will & Testament. IN TESTIMONY whereof I do hereunto set my hand & seal this 6th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & fifty eight.                                                       George Doggett  (L.S.) Sign'd, seal'd, publish'd & declared in presence of: Robert Slanghter William Green William Ball                          At a Court held for the County of Culpeper                           Thursday, the 18th day of January 1759 This Last Will and Testament of George Doggett, deceased, was exhibited to the court by Ann Doggett, widow, one of the Executors therein named, which was proved by the oaths of James Brown & William Morris and the codicil thereto was also proved by the oaths of William Green, gentleman & William Ball, witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on her motion, Certificate is granted her for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form, she having sworn to the same & given bond & security according to law (liberty being reserved for Thomas Doggett, the other Executor therein named to join in the Probat when he shall think fitt.Ex'd (examined)                                                       Teste:                                                       Roger Dixon, Cl.Cur.
