CUMBERLAND COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Colwell Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Colwell graveyard: 1936 June 22 Research made by Mrs. Lola F. Addleman Cemetery Location: 4 miles west of Cumberland, Virginia on Route #60, about 200 yards west of the old Colwell home. Cumberland County DATE: 1793, date of the oldest grave marker. OWNERS: Located on land belonging to Albert Trent. (1936) DESCRIPTION: Most of the graves are covered with bushes, grass and briers, and one can hardly tell where they are. This particular grave has a smooth stone, about eighteen by twenty-seven inches, flat on the ground, with the following inscription cut by hand. The letters are not perfectly shaped, but can be read. The date 1793 in the lower left corner is supposed to be the year he died.
