Cumberland County DATE: 1841, date of death. OWNERS: Mr. R.S. Flannagan, Columbia, Virginia. DESCRIPTION: This grave is surrounded by a massive wall, constructed of huge black rocks, common to that section. The wall is beginning to tumble down in places. At the head, is an immense stone, very obviously shaped by hand with a chisel, yet presents a very fine specimen of amateur sculpture. At the foot of the grave is a smaller stone, also hand chiseled. The inscription is as follows: Erected by William McCullough In memory of his wife Who departed this life December 20th, 1841 Aged 33 years HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This grave is in the poultry yard of Mr. R.S. Flannagan, near Trices Lake. The stone bears a shroud of mystery in the section of its location. No one there has ever heard of that name being associated with that part of the country. So far as they know, there were no kinsmen of the McCulloughs to live at this place. SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: Mr. R.S. Flannagan, Columbia, Virginia.
