Meadow Cemetery Location: 9 miles northeast of Farmville, Va. on County Route #600, thence north of this road. Cumberland County DATE: About 1797 OWNERS: William Walker 1752 Warren Walker 1752 William Walker 1785 William B.B. Walker 1828 William D. Walker 1870 Wm. D. Walker’s widow 1879 E.S. Walker and W. Walker 1929 to present (1937) DESCRIPTION: The Hall cemetery is situated one fifth of a mile south of White Hall. The graveyard is not enclosed. There are several old cedar trees in this cemetery, but no shrubbery. The graves have no markers, but are overgrown with weeds and bushes. There are forty graves, some of which are very old. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: William Walker, one of the former owners of White Hall, fought in the Revolutionary War. Not only this, but he had the privilege of being present at the surrender of Cornwallis, at Yorktown. This gentleman was the grandfather of the present owner, E.S. Walker. This same gentleman, Wm. Walker, made his own coffin several years before his death, and kept it under his bed. Late in life, he was converted. After this event, he had all of his peach trees cut down, doubtless so that there would be no temptation to have the peaches made into brandy. After his conversion, Mr. Walker, although he was not an ordained minister, went to Brown’s Presbyterian Church and preached. He was buried at White Hall. Date unknown.
