Davenport/Chalton Deed, 1762 - Cumberland Co. VA 23 August 1762 Deed Book 3, page 309 This indenture made the tenth day of July in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and sixty two by and between Thomas Davenport Ju'r of Southam Parish in Cumberland County of the one part and Abraham Chalton of the same Parish and County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Thomas Davenport for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Abraham Chalton at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he the said Tho's Davenport doth hereby acknowledge and thereof and every part and parcel thereof doth clearly acquit and discharge the said Abrahma Chalton his heirs executers and administrators and every of them by these presents hath granted alienated bargained Sold released and confirmed and by these presents doth Grant alien bargain sell release and confirm unto the said Abraham Chalton his heirs forever on tract or parcel of land containing two hundred acres more of less situate lying and being in the Parrish & county aforesaid and bounded as followeth toqit, beginning at a corner Beach Charles Lees line thence on John Gannaways line north twenty degrees west one hundred and thirty four pole to a black oak thence north fourty seven degrees west eight poles to a white oak thence north sixteen degrees east sixty four pole to a white oak saplin thence north fourty degrees east eight poles to a pine thence south sixty five and a half degrees east one hundred and fourty seven pole to a pine thence south thirty pole to a white oak thence South twenty nine degrees west one hundred and ninety eight pole to the first station with all and singular the appurtenances therunto belonging unto the said Abraham Chalton and his heirs to the only Proper use and behoof of him the said Abraham Chalton his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thomas Davenport for himself his heirs executer and administrators doth covenant and grant to and with the said Abrahm Chalton his heirs and assignees by these presents that it shall and may be lawful to and for the said Abrahma Chalton his heirs and assigns from time to time and at all times forever hereafter peaceably and --- to have hold occupy possess and enjoy and said land and premises with ---ny lawful lett suit trouble molestation of interruption of him----Thoma Davenport his heirs executers administrators or assign----- person or persons whatso ---lawfully claiming or ----- them or any ---ten and the said Thomas Davenport for himself and his heirs the said premises as before intended mentioned and exprest unto the said Abraham Chalton and his heirs against him the said Tho's Davenport and his heirs and all claiming or to claim in by from or under them or any of them shall & will warrant and forever defend by these presets in witness wherof the said Thoams Davenport hath hereunto sett his hand and affix his seal the day and year first above written... Thomas Davenport Signed sealed and delivered In the presence of Memorandum that on the ninth day of July one thousand seven hundred and sixty two peaceable and quiet possession of the land and premises within granted and sold was had and taken by the within named Thomas Davenport and by him delivered to the within named Abraham Chalton as the usual symbols of Livery & seizin according to the force form & effect of the within deed....
