Oakley/Jones Deed, 1850 Deed Book 27 page 199 Cumberland County VA Jordan Oakley & wife To Deed John H. Jones State of Alabama, Maringo County, Know all men by there present that I Jordon H. Oakley of said county and state for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars to me paid by John H. Jones of the County of Cumberland and state of Virginia (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) do grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said John H. Jones his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land, and all the privileges and appurtenances to the same belonging situate in the County of Cumberland and state of Virginia, known and described, as the land drawn by the said Jordon H Oakley in the division of his fathers estate, and bounded by the lands of Martha Winfree, Vincent C. Ryals, and the land of Edward Walton, dec. containing forty acres, be the same more or less to have an to hold the above granted premises and all privileges and appurtenances thereof unto the said John H. Jones, his heirs and assigns, to his and their use in behoof forever. In witness whereof we the said Jordon Oakley and Harriet A. Oakley, wife of the said Jordon H Oakley in taken of her release of all rights and title of or to dower in the afore granted premises have hereunto set our hands and seals this 25th day of march in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty. Oakley a party to a certain deed bearing date the 25th day of March AD 1850, and hereto annexed personally appeared before in my state aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his acts and deed and s\desired me to certify his acknowledgment to the clerk of the proper courts in the state of Virginia in order that the said deed may be recorded and I do hereby further certify that Harriet A Oakley the wife of the said Jordon H Oakley the parties tot he deed aforesaid personally appeared before me in my stat aforesaid and being by me examined privily and apart from her said husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Harriet A Oakley acknowledged the same to be her acts and deed and declared that she had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not to retract it.
