Will of Abraham Charlton, 1790 - Cumberland Co. VA Will Book 2 Page 480 - 1790 In the name of God Amen. I Abraham Charlton of the County of Cumberland, a parish of Littleton being sick but in my proper sences do call to mind there is a time for man to die and if it should please God to call me away I desire that my little Estate may be divided as followeth Viz: Item: I desire to leave my soul in the hands of Almighty God who first gave it and my body to be buried in a decent manner. Item : I lend unto my wife Elizabeth Charlton during the time she lives single the plantation where I now live containing one hundred acres of land with all the moveable estate to have it in a quiet and peacable possesssion during the time she lives single as above mentioned Item: I give unto my son John Charlton seventy five acres of land the plantation where he now lives and possesses adjoining the lands of Dodson's & Archibald Carys to him and to his heirs. Item: I give unto my son Samuel Charlton the land and plantation where he now lives containing seventy five acres to him and his heirs. Item: I give unto my son David Charlton seventy five acres of land adjoining the land of my son Samuel Charlton and to continue towards the lines of Joseph Lee commanly called the Shoe make Bottom to him and his heirs. Item: I give unto my son James Charlton seventy five acres of land betwwen the land of David Charlton and Joseph Lee's lines to his and his heirs. Item: I give unto my two daughters Molly Charlton & Sally Charlton the plantaion where I now live containing one hundred acres of lnad to be equally divided between them both at the death or marriage of my wife Elizabeth Charlton to be theirs & their heirs. Item: I desire that after the death or marriage of my wife Elizabeth that all my moveable property should be sold and twenty five pounds to be paid to my daughter Molly and twenty five pounds to be paid to my daughter Sally to make them equal with the boys lands and the reminder part to be equally divided between each and every of my children Viz: John Charlton Samuel Charlton David Charlton James Charlton Molly Charlton Sally Charlton to them & theirs Item: I leave my three friends Hickerson Barksdale Samuel Williams and William Russell the hole and sole executors of this my last will and testament given from under my hand and seal this first day Oct'r One thousand seven hundred & ninety Signed sealed and delivered in presence of Test: Wm.
