Will & Inventory of Phebe Oakley, 1853 Will Book 12, pages 371 & 372 Cumberland County Va In the name of God, Amen, I Phebe Oakley of the County of Cumberland, and state of Virginia, being of sound mind and disposing memory, but supposing life with me to be short, or uncertain, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, revoking all other and former wills by me made, that is to say. Item the first ... I desire, that so soon after my death as practicable, my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. Item the Second. I give to my nephew William I.? Meador, two negroes to wit,Rachal and her son Sam, to him and his heirs forever. Item the Third. I give to my niece Julia Ann Nunnally formerly Julia Ann Meador, a negro girl named Rosetta, to her and her heirs forever. Item the fourth. I give to Martha P. A. C.. Winfree daughter of my nephew William H. Winfree, my tract of land, now rented to William H. Anderson, to her and her heirs forever, also a one horse wagon. Item the fifth. I give to my sister Martha P. Winfree the amount she owes me, which I suppose to be about Sixty dollars, also one feather bed and furniture, also one milk cow. Item the sixth. I give to Edward C. Winfree, son of William H. Winfree, one feather bed and furniture, Item the seventh. I give to Mary C.. Meador, daughter of Jonas Meador, one feather bed and furniture. Item the eighth. I give to Mary Jane Robertson twenty dollars. Item the ninth. I give to James A. Meador, one yearling. Item the tenth. I desire that the ballance of my estate, of whatever it may consist, shall be equally divided between John D. Meador, Lewis C?. Meador &M_____ Meador. Lastly I nominate and appoint V C.. Ryals Executor to this my last will and testament. Meador May Johns. At a court held for Cumberland County the 28th day of January 1856. This Last Will and testament of Phebe Oakley died, was presented in Court; and proved byt he oaths of V C. Ryals, W. H. Winfree, and ? A. Meador, three subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of V C. Ryals, the Executor in said Will named, who made oath thereto, and entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $3000.00, with Jonas Meador, his security, conditioned according to law a certificate is granted the said V C. At a Court helf for Cumberland County the 24th day of August 1957. This report o the settlement of the accounts of V C. Ryals executor of Phebe Oakley decd was presented in Court and ordered t be for exceptions til next Court and at a court held for said County the 28th day of September 1857. The same was again presented in Court and no exceptions being filed thereto ordered to be recorded.
