Holbrook CLINTWOOD -- Billy R. Holbrook, 56, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at his home. He was a life long resident of Dickenson County and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 8979 of Clintwood and a member of the Peuther Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Hattie Holbrook; two brothers, Leon and Ron Holbrook; one sister, Marie Williams; and two infant children, Shelia and Patricia Holbrook. Survivors include his wife, Janie Puckett Holbrook; one son and daughter- in-law, Gary and Missy Holbrook of Clintwood; one daughter, Debbie Holbrook Ramey of Clintwood; two brothers, Noah "Bud" Holbrook, Bristol Virginia and Odis Holbrook and his wife Maria, Martinez, Ga.; two sisters, Elizabeth Pennington and her husband Claude, Jonesborough, Tenn., and Jewell Amburgey and her husband Estel, Castlewood; one granddaughter, Deanne Ramey; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at the Peuther Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Glenn Sluss officiating. Burial will follow in the Peuther Chapel Church Cemetery where military service will be conducted by the VFW Post 8979, DAV Chapter 35 and American Legion Post 227. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Monday evening at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with a service at 7 p.m. Clintwood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
