A lifelong resident of Dickenson County, he was the son of the late Roy and Stella Deel Sauls. Other than his parents; four brothers, Glen, Jack, Carl and Guy Sauls; and one grandson, Larry Kenneth Hay preceded him in death. Mr. Sauls was a member of the Cumberland Church of the Brethren for 22 years, a retired coal miner from Clinchfield Coal Corp. with over 40 years of service and a member of Local Union 7170. He had many loves in his life, the first being for his God, his wife, family and friends, including his fox hounds and special Bath County hunting buddies, Jack and Calvin Sullivan. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Betty B. Sauls; five stepsons, Edgar Stanley, Lester Stanley, Dale and Jessica Stanley, Garvis and Gay Stanley and Warren and Tammy Stanley, all of Clintwood; one daughter, Patricia Ann Coleman, Orange City, Fla.; two sisters, Helen (Tot) Honaker of Honaker and Nina (Sis) Yates of Abingdon; two "very special" grandchildren, Bradley Dean Stanley and Amanda Joyce Mullins of Clintwood; 17 other grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, from the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. L. Myers Mullins and Rev. Lester Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Sauls-Stanley Family Cemetery, Route 3, Sauls Drive, in Ramey Flats. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Friday at the Clintwood Funeral Home with a song service to follow at 7 p.m. Active pallbearers are Eric Keen, Jack Sullivan, Calvin Sullivan, Lester Stanley, Warren Stanley and Garvis Stanley. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Richard Grube, Dr. N.C. Ratliffe, Dr. McBride, Dr. Sarrouj and Dr. Marty Prince. Clintwood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
