Powell Cemetery Location: 5 miles north of McKenney, Virginia on Route #1; thence west. Dinwiddie County DATE: 1871, land was donated for the graveyard. OWNERS: Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church. DESCRIPTION: In 1896, Buckskin Church was sold and a new one was built under the supervision of Mr. James E. Medlock, and it was called Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church. After Mr. Medlock’s death, Asbury Church was moved to McKenney, Virginia and the site was added to the graveyard. It is now called Asbury graveyard. The graveyard is enclosed by a wire fence and is being laid off in lots. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The tombstones bear the following inscriptions: Masonic Insignia Our Father James E.
