Powell Cemetery Location: 9 miles west of McKenney, Virginia, on Route #40; thence north 1 mile on private road. Dinwiddie County DATE: 1847 OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: The Aspen Lawn Cemetery is west of the house. It consist of one acre of land. There is a rock wall around the cemetery, with a wire gate as the entrance. It is not very well kept. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following are the inscriptions on the tombstones: Sacred to the memory of William Ferguson Who was born on the 1st of Oct. 1789 and died on the 28th of Nov. 1847 Leaving an affectionate wife and seven children Whose unspeakable consolation it is, to know that their loss is his gain – for besides being a devoted husband, an indulgent father, a kind master, and sincere friend, he was also a true and most exemplary Christian. “Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like His”. Numbers 23 & 10 Sacred to the memory of Martha Stith Ferguson consort of Wm. Ferguson who was born March 3, 1810 and died March 18, 1855 She was an affectionate mother, kind mistress a devoted Christian, triumphing in death, her last words were, Jesus Sweet Jesus “She hath done what she could”. St. Mark 14 – 8 & 9 parts. Sacred to the memory of John Ferguson Son of Wm. & Martha S. Ferguson Born Aug. 10, 1834 Died Feb. 14, 1850 In hopes of a blissful immortality From a child Thou hast known the holy Scriptures. 2 Tim. 3 chap. 15 V. 1 part. II Book II Psalm XXIII The Lord is my Shepherd In Memory of Richard Ferguson who was born March 1, 1811 and died Oct. 12, 1888 He was a sincere Christian, devoted husband, affectionate father and kind master. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. To the memory of Sarah C. Ferguson Born July 17, 1836 Died April 4, 1868 O! Magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. Psalm XXXIV-3 V. Sacred to the Memory of James H.
