Powell Cemetery Location: Harper’s Home Post Office, Virginia, Route #40, thence north .1 mile. Dinwiddie County DATE: 1825, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: Samuel Pryor, 1836. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is enclosed by a rock wall, and is reserved. It is in very bad condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This graveyard is on the Ansvill tract of land. The last person buried here was in 1847. Inscriptions: Pryor Atkinson In Memory of Mrs. L.H. Jones Consort of Benjamin Jones Petersburg Who departed this life on 3rd of January, 1825, in the 21st year of her age. Leaving a son only 11 days old, and a husband by whom His memorial of affectionate rememberance is erected. To the memory of Martha Ann wife of Wm. B. Proce M.D. of Brunswick who departed this life Dec. 10, 1846 age 24 years, 2 mo. and 14 days. Rest in peace thou gentle spirit Souls like thine with God inherit life and love The endearing virtues of her who lies beneath this state have passed away: Yet they are not and cannot be forgotten by him who offers this humble tribute to the memory of a dear wife. Sacred to the Memory of Mary Ann beloved wife of Samuel Pryor Born Dec. 23, A.D. 1800 died June 27, A.D. 1847 Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. In Memory of Mrs. Mary Ann Atkinson who lived a Christian Died in the faith and now Enjoys the Saints reward in Heaven Sweet soul, we leave thee to thy rest Enjoy thy Jesus and thy God, Till we from bonds of clay released Depart and climb the Heavenly road. She found redemption thro the blood of the Lamb. Reader, Hast thou? Sacred to the memory of Mrs. Lucy Epps Pryor Who departed this life on the 30th of Dec. 1829, in the 20th yr. of her age. Mrs. Pryor was a consistant member of the Presbyterian Church: and while this marble marks the spot where was interred her mortal part, her bereaved friends have just ground to hope that her emancipated spirit is participating in all those services and joys, which belong to the angels in Heaven.
