It has been abandoned and is totally overgrown with trees, only two tombstones remained (the rest having apparently been carried off by vandals). The two remaining tombstones were: (1)James B.Rideout, Born July 6,1882, Died May 13,1926. (2)Sterling Bass, Co.A 4th VA. Inf. CSA (no dates) Both Tombstones were knocked over & lying on the ground. (NOTE: The above James B.Rideout was son of Benjamin Vernon Rideout and Anthlear Charlotte "Charlie" Sammons). A local resident who guided me to this cemetary said that some years ago (Circa 1950's), this cemetary had many tombstones including several graves of confederate soldiers, some of them officers, and that the Cemetary was at least a half acre in size. I have not verified this information but do not doubt this persons veracity as he would have no reason to exaggerate. Also buried in this Cemetary, according to Death Certificates, are: (1)Benjamin Vernon Rideout, son of Benjamin Joseph Rideout & Susan A.Saunders, and Grandson of David Rideout & Olive D.Saunders. (2)Anthlear Charlotte (Sammons) Rideout, wife of Benjamin Vernon, Daughter of James L.Sammons & Mary F.Rideout (Mary was Daughter of David Rideout & Olive D.Saunders). (3)Maggie Hugh(Rideout)(Hayes)Westbrook, Daughter of Benjamin Vernon Rideout & Anthlear Charlotte Sammons. This information is supplied by Russell L.Lawrence ruslaw@techcom.net
