Bristow family graveyard: 1937 Apr. 12 Research made by Dorothy Gray Pilout Cemetery Location: .3 mile southwest of Dinwiddie Court House, on Route #1, thence 2.3 miles northwest on Route #645, thence .2 mile north of Route #645 by private lane to the John Y. Bristow home sire, thence 30 yards east to the graveyard. Dinwiddie County DATE: 1860 OWNERS: This property was inherited by Francis O. Bristow from his father, John Y. Bristow; it was sold by Francis O. Bristow and his wife Sallie E. Bristow and I.S. Keeler, January 15, 1881 to L.H. Tabb. The property was sold by L.H. Tabb and wife Mary Tabb, to B.H. Barrow, March 22, 1918. It was deeded to John K. Barrow on January 31, 1925 by Karl Butterworth and Morton G. Goode, trustees. John K. Barrow and wife, Lillian H. Barrow sold the place to John R. Duncan November 23, 1933. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard which is located about 30 yards from the John Y. Bristow house site, has been abandoned for a great number of years. It is on the edge of a very slight hill, and since it has not had any care taken of it for a period of years, it is almost impossible to determine just where the graves are located. There are only four graves and none of them are marked in any way. The entire graveyard is covered with honeysuckle, and there is a small persimmon tree and a walnut tree growing there. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following is a list of members of the family buried here: John Y. Bristow’s widow, who married a Williamson after his death. She was Caroline Williamson before her first marriage. George Williamson, who was a brother of Caroline Williamson. Mrs. George Williamson, who was a daughter of Eusebius Sterne Eusebius Williamson, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Williams SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informants: Mrs. Otelia Matthews, DeWitt, Virginia, Route #1 Mrs. Matthews is a granddaughter of John Y. Bristow. Mrs. Arabella E. Sterne, Dinwiddie, Virginia Mrs. J.R. Duncan, DeWitt, Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan now own this property, since the graveyard was not reserved.
