Clarke family graveyard: 1937 Mar. 18/ Research made by Dorothy Grant [i.e. Gray] Pilout. Cemetery Location: About 3 miles from Sutherland, Virginia Dinwiddie County Thomas E. Clarke was the first owner of the land upon which the Clarke family graveyard is located. He bought this land from Thomas Hardgrove in 1839, and it was willed to Fayette Dandridge Clarke, by his father, Thomas E. Clarke. The three children of Fayette and Laura Clarke inherited the place upon the death of Fayette Clarke. It was will jointly by Miss Nancy Clarke and Thomas Clarke to a cousin, Miss Sallie Good Morton, who is the present owner. This graveyard is located about two hundred yards east of “Laurel Brook” the old Clarke home, and is in the garden and enclosed by a plain wire fence. It is covered with shrubs, a mimose tree, several bridle wreath bushes, two lovely boxwood bushes and one althea tree are in this lot, and it covers about an eighth of an acre of ground. The graves have no tombstones, but are marked with small rocks at both head and foot. Thomas E. Clarke, born August 5, 1793, died December 25, 1870 Ann Jackson Clarke, wife of Thomas E. Clarke, died Feb. 14, 1914 Ann J. Boisseau, wife of Joseph G. Boisseau and a daughter of Thomas E. and Ann Jackson Clarke, was born June 18, 1828 and died July 12, 1858 Joseph G. Boisseau born Feb. 27, 1817 and died May 9, 1879 Josephine, a daughter of Joseph G. and Ann J. Clarke Boisseau, was born August 30, 1853 and died April 15, 1854 Etta Ann Boisseau, a daughter of Joseph G. and Ann J.C. Boisseau, was born Sept. 17, 1851 and died Oct. 18, 1859 Thomas Clarke Boisseau, a son of Joseph G. and Ann J.C. Boisseau, was born June 17, 1855 and died April 30, 1860 Miss Nanny J. Clarke, a daughter of Fayette D. and Laura Ballou Clarke, was born March 14, 1861 and died Jan. 29, 1923 Thomas Easley Clarke, a son of F.D. and I.B. Clarke, was born Oct. 2, 1859 and died May 22, 1922 Berkeley Clarke, a son of F.D. and I.B. Clarke, was born Sept. 28th 1862 and died June 20, 1920
