Bourdon lived in Petersburg, Virginia two years before coming to Dinwiddie, Virginia where he purchased the tract of land in 1781. He had a French Colonial house. He built and called it “French Green”. That house burned and a two-story one built within the past forty years by Mr. Thomas C. Bourdon. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Dr. Nicholas J. Bourdon, a Huguenot, came to America as a physician and surgeon during the Revolutionary War, on board a ship in the French fleet, under Count de Grasses – 1775. A story goes that Dr. Bourdon had a quarrel with his brother who was a Roman Catholic Priest, knocked him down and not waiting to know if he was killed, mounted a horse and made for the French fleet. He left immediately for America. After settling in Dinwiddie in 1781, he practised his profession in Dinwiddie and Brunswick Counties until his death in 1813. A graveyard is to the west of the house, fenced in by wire, not well kept. The inscriptions: Dr. N.J. Bourdon France 1750 Dinwiddie 1813 Martha and Jane Bourdon Henry Bourdon 1800 - 1872 Lieut.
