DINWIDDIE CO., VA - CEMETERIES – Greenway Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Greenway graveyard: 1937 Aug. 6 Research made by Mamie Fraser Cemetery Location: 2 miles southeast of Dinwiddie, Virginia on Route #626; thence south five miles on Route #660; thence west 1.6 miles on Route #609; thence south 3.7 miles on Route #629; thence west .4 mile on Route #616; thence south .2 mile on Route #662 to this graveyard. Dinwiddie County DATE: Unknown, but the earliest grave is 1797. OWNERS: Mrs. Hinton Barnes. (1937) DESCRIPTION: There were some vaults in this plot, but these have long since decayed, leaving only holes in the ground to show where the graves were. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Dr. James Greenway Who died in or before 1797 Martha Dixon Greenway widow of Dr. Greenway Date of death unknown Robert Greenway the eldest and only son of Dr. Greenway to reach the age of maturity; born in 1780 and died November 25, 1837, in the 57th year of his age “To portray the character of this good man is far beyond any language we can use. Without using exertions save his virtues, he won the respect and esteem of all, and none living knew that he had one to whom could be applied the epithet of a foe. He lived free from reproach and died without a sting of conscience.” Ann Elizabeth Kennon Wyatt Greenway widow of Robert Greenway Died March 5, 1838 “A dutiful child, affectionate wife, tender parent, kind mistress and benevolent neighbor” James Greenway the only son of Robert Greenway died in the year 1862, having contracted measles while in the Army during the War Between the States and died from complications that followed the disease.
