Powell Cemetery Location: South Dinwiddie, Virginia Route #1, 1 miles north of McKenney, thence west, private road. Dinwiddie County DATE: About 1800. OWNERS: Edmund Withers to John Grammer 1838 Alexander G. McClean to Hector McLean 1875 Hector McLean to Zeruh Gally 1875 W.B. Butterworth Feb. 27, 1937 DESCRIPTION: The site of “Locust Grove” house is not decided. Saw mills have so defaced the place. The only sign of location is a shanty some negro family by the name of Batts is living in. The graveyard is very near the shanty. In Deed Book #13, Page #643, 1.25 acre is reserved for burial ground, with ingress and egress; a high wire fence encloses the plot. No one has been buried there since 1860. The place is not well kept. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The graveyard is the sleeping home for one of the three Nationally known men of Dinwiddie County. Gen. William H.
