Dinwiddie County DATE: Unknown but prior to 1843. OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: This old graveyard is in an open field and is not enclosed. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Thomas D. Williams Co. 1 3 Va. Cav. C.S.A. (Thos. Williams married a Mrs. Wells, who was before her marriage, Elizabeth Sturdivant) Francis O. Bristow Co. F 32 Va. Inf. C.S.A. (Francis O. Bristow has no connection with the Sturdivant family, only a friend, and there is a grave near his that is unmarked) W. W. Matthews Co. B. 59 Va. Inf. C.S.A. (W.W. Matthews has no connection with the Sturdivant family) Martha E. Wife of J.W. Seay Died 1868 (Martha Seay first married James Benjamin Young, she was a daughter of Lewis P. Lanier and Elizabeth Sturdivant Lanier. M.E. Seay was born Dec. 22, 1837) Prt. T. D. Wells 1893 – 1918 Died from wounds received in Argonne Forest, Oct. 4, died Oct. 6. ----------------------------- The following members of the Sturdivant family are buried in this old graveyard, but without any stones to mark their graves: Elizabeth Sturdivant Wells Williams who first married William Wells and after his death, she married Thomas D. Williams. Her grave is enclosed by a rock wall, and is the only grave inside this wall. This wall was put there in accordance with a request made by her just before her death. She died in 1875, about 65 years old. She was a daughter of Daniel Sturdivant. Mr. and Mrs. James Sturdivant the latter was Miss Mary Thweatt before her marriage. Both of these died prior to 1843. Henry Sturdivant a son of the first Jimmy Sturdivant. Jane Sturdivant wife of Henry Sturdivant, her last name unknown. Mrs. Fannie Sturdivant Crowder Daniel Sturdivant a son of the first Jimmy Sturdivant. Elizabeth Lanier Sturdivant wife of Daniel Sturdivant William Wells who married Elizabeth Sturdivant. He died in 1854 Mary Nash Wells died in 1936, at the age of 79. She was the wife of William Wells, a son of William Wells. Lewis Williams a son of Thomas D. and Elizabeth Sturdivant Wells, and a half-brother of William Wells. Lewis Williams died in 1890 and was grown when he died. Alice Wells a daughter of Elizabeth S. and William Wells Lewis Parham Lanier born in 1786 and died in December 1863. He married twice, a Miss Sturdivant both times. He was the father of Mrs. Mary James Lanier Dabney, who is now 93 years old. Susan Thompson Sturdivant Lanier wife of Lewis P. Lanier, died about 1847 Elizabeth Sturdivant Lanier who was the first wife of Lewis P. Lanier, and these two were the parents of Martha E. Seay, mentioned before this. Miss Martha Sturdivant a daughter of James and Mary Thweatt Sturdivant John Sturdivant a son of James Sturdivant James Sturdivant, Jr. a son of James Sturdivant and Mary Thweatt Sturdivant. Martha Goodwyn (?) the wife of James Sturdivant, Jr. Manlove Sturdivant William Sturdivant Nimrod Sturdivant Mrs. Josephene Sturdivant Williamson Mrs. “Missey” Pettus A daughter of Henry and Jane Sturdivant Maria Frances Lanier a daughter of L.P. and Elizabeth S. Lanier Rebecca Lewis Lanier a daughter of Lewis P. and Susan Thompson Sturdivant Lanier Lamartine Lanier an infant son of L.P. and Susan Thompson S. Lanier In infant son of L.P. and Elizabeth S. Lanier SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: Mrs. Mary James Lanier Dabney, who was a daughter of the late Elizabeth Sturdivant Lanier and Lewis P. Lanier, and a great- granddaughter of the first James Sturdivant. She is 93 years old, but her mind is very active, and she has a wonderful memory. Dinwiddie, Virginia.
