OWNERS: The Whitworth family. (1936) DESCRIPTION: A granite vault. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Mrs. Eliza Harrison Whitworth, wife of Captain Thomas Whitworth, and daughter of Colonel Peterson Goodwyn, did not desire to be placed under the ground at her death. All of her life she declared that she did not mind dying, but had a perfect horrow of her body being placed in this manner; therefore at her death, her husband, the above named Captain Thomas Whitworth had this vault built in her honor, and dedicated to her memory. Thus the wish of Mrs. Whitworth was fulfilled. The granite for this vault came from the quarry at “Mayfield” and was hauled in an ox cart from “Mayfield” to “Sweeden”.
